Most Under-Appreciated Doctor Who Companion - Martha Jones
I never liked Martha Jones. For some reason, she just rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t think, initially that I understood her. Or perhaps, I was just really, really bummed about Rose. But after re-watching Season Three recently, I started to see her in a different light. Martha Jones is a savior. She risks her life time and time again for the Doctor. She saves him, saves the world, saves the lives of countless strangers, time and time again. She sheds tears for the Doctor and tells others how wonderful he is. And honestly, the Doctor isn’t all that keen on her. Oh, he isn’t necessarily unkind -just rather disinterested. It isn’t the same relationship that he has with Donna, or even Wilt or Jack. It isn’t until the end that he gives her the appreciation and love she deserves. I’m glad she ended up with Mickey…that Russell finally gave her a happy ending. She certainly deserved one.
